Which SEO tasks to automate and which to keep for yourself

The rule

If a task has fixed steps and a clear result, automate it. If it needs judgement about your business or can harm the site when wrong, keep a person in charge.

Good tasks to automate

  • Scheduled rank checks and AI visibility checks.
  • Regular site audits and a short summary of what changed.
  • A weekly digest of movements and alerts for drops.
  • Pulling data into a report in a set format.

Tasks to keep

  • Choosing which keywords and competitors matter.
  • Deciding what to publish and in what voice.
  • Changes to redirects, canonicals and robots.txt.
  • Anything involving spending or outreach in your name.

Review on a schedule

Once a month, read what the automated tasks produced. Confirm they still track the right things, and change the list as the business changes.

Run it with your AI agent

Connect your agent to Auditmatic, then paste this prompt. Replace the parts in angle brackets. It reads real data and asks before it spends anything.

Use my Auditmatic project for <your-domain>. Set up a weekly routine: run run_rank_tracker for my tracked keywords, summarise movements over three places, and note any drop on a money keyword. Do not add or remove tracked keywords, and do not change anything on the site. Tell me the cost of the routine before you start it.
Run this with agent and mcp on AuditmaticAudit any site free with no signup. Plans start at $5 a month, with lookups included.

Without a tool

You can do this by hand with free tools:

  • Write down the checks you do every week.
  • Mark each as fixed-steps or judgement.
  • Automate the fixed-steps ones first.

Questions

Is it risky to automate SEO?

Not if the automation reads and reports. Risk comes from automating changes to the site without review.

How do I keep costs under control?

Ask for a cost estimate before any paid lookup, and keep scheduled tasks small.
