An SEO audit report template people actually act on
By the Auditmatic team · Updated 3 November 2026 · 6 min read
1. A summary on one screen
Open with the score, the three biggest problems and the one result you expect from fixing them. A reader who stops here should still know what to do.
2. The findings that matter
List the top five to ten findings, each with the number of pages affected, an example URL, and the severity.
3. Why each one matters
Tie each finding to something the reader cares about: pages not being indexed, a slow page losing visitors, a duplicate page splitting rankings. Avoid jargon.
4. The fix, the owner and the effort
For each finding, write the exact change, who will do it and how long it takes. This turns the report into a task list.
- Finding: 42 pages share the same title
- Why: search engines cannot tell them apart, and clicks suffer
- Fix: write a unique title for each product page. Owner: content. Effort: half a day
5. What you left out, and why
Say that minor findings exist and are in the appendix. It shows you looked, and keeps attention on the important ones.
6. Next steps
End with the three actions for the next two weeks, and the date you will re-run the audit to check.
Run it with your AI agent
Connect your agent to Auditmatic, then paste this prompt. Replace the parts in angle brackets. It reads real data and asks before it spends anything.
Use my Auditmatic project for <your-domain>. Run run_site_audit and read get_audit_issues. Write a report in six parts: a one-screen summary, the top 8 findings with pages affected and an example URL, why each matters in plain words, the fix with an owner and effort estimate, a note on what you left out, and three next steps. Save it with save_report.
Without a tool

Questions
How long should an audit report be?
As short as it can be while stating the decisions. A few pages plus an appendix is typical.
Should I include the score?
Yes, as context. The score matters less than the list of fixes.
